Mission Day 2024

Last Friday was Mission Day. When I arrived at school in the morning some people were wearing mufti. We had to pay a dollar to wear mufti and the money goes to the Holy Angels Orphanage in India. When I got to class the bell rang then Room 6 lined up outside to go to mass. When we got to church we sat down quietly.  I looked around  and I saw Mrs Agnew behind me. After the mass we came back to school then the bell rang for morning tea.  While it was morning tea people were already selling their goods. When morning tea was over, Room 6 started to set up our stalls and we encouraged people to come and enjoy catching some fish for a prize. We had turns in minding the stalls. The first two groups were allowed to shop around for twenty minutes. Then the other two groups went afterwards. Nanda and I  went shopping together. We had so much fun!

At lunch time  I ate my lunch with my friends. Most of my classmates ordered sausages  but I didn’t because I brought my own lunch.  It was very yummy as my mom made it.

After lunch we watched a movie. It was very funny. Then a few minutes later, Mrs Bullot  came to our class and gave us ice blocks.  Sadly the bell rang and we had to go home.

It was the best day ever and I was very happy!

Cycling Day

Last Thursday morning we lined up outside of class to go to the bottom court for a cycling lesson. We met two ladies who were bicycle coaches. Their names were Lucy and stephanie. They explained to us some important things when riding a bike. Then we got our bikes and helmets.  Some of the students who were less confident went to the top court to practise more. Those who are still learning went to the canopy. We biked around and stopped many times. After  that it was morning tea.

Later, we came back and did some more biking.  We had a race game and it was fun! Unfortunately, it was lunch time and that was the end of our biking.

The best part of the day were the games because we had to race with one another in our group. I did not win but I did my absolute best.

In the future I want to have my own bike and go around my neighbourhood especially  in the summertime.

Doing crochet

Yesterday on Wednesday, while the other people in room 6 went to the Rippa Rugby Tournament the year 4’s stayed in room 6 because they needed to be a year 5  when we finished prayers we had a little bit of free time I sat next to the girls and crochet I wanted to crochet with them because I already new how to crochet .It was a lot of fun crocheting Ruzzel wanted some help doing crochet  she told me that it was very hard I told her how to hold the yarn properly and how to twist the yarn with the hook Gabrielle lent me her crochet hooks. It was very easy for me because I already knew how to crochet. I also crocheted an  octopus. The boys from Room 8 were playing an online game called Blooket  I didn’t want to play because I wanted to crochet with Thalia and Ruzzel. Ruzzel  crocheted a cute little Capybara angel and Nicole from Room 8 let us use their yarn to make something .I had a lot of  crocheting but it was time to go home so we packed up and went home.

Paris Olympics 2024

Room 6 is learning about the Paris Olympics 2024. Mrs Agnew said that we should choose an athlete from any country we liked. I chose Emma Malabuyo for my athlete. She is an amazing gymnast from the Philippines and I want to be like her one day because she represents  the Philippines.  She won silver which means she won 2nd place.

We have also learned about an American artist named Keith Haring.  We decided to draw  our athlete using his style. I enjoyed creating my gymnast.

My Taonga

At the end of  last term Mrs Agnew had an idea that we should make a Taonga for Matariki. This is a symbol Maori use for something special to them. It is a treasure. I decided I wanted to make a shell and I used modeling  clay to make it. After the holidays it was dry and I painted it green. Then I added it to heesian material which is brown and we added our writing about our treasure underneath. Mine is very special to me.

Comparing and contrasting Tortoises and Turtles

Turtles have different and similar things to tortoises. Some people turtles are the same as tortoises but they’re different and similar in many ways. Turtles have smaller, thinner shells but tortoises have large rounded shells. Turtles live for 20 to 30 years however tortoises can live for 100 to 150 years. Similarly Tortoises and Turtles lay eggs on land.

Our Wearable Waste Fashion Show

On Tuesday, Room 6 and 7 had an idea by making clothes using plastic paint and cardboard and other recycled materials we brought from home. We are going to have a fashion show on Thursday, starting with some of the Room 6 people who were working in Room 7. Some of the Room 7 worked in Room 6. I was making a queen outfit. We started making our clothes on Tuesday afternoon. It was like recycling and reusing plastic to make something we can wear.

While I was making my queen dress I needed an idea. I used my chrome book for ideas. There were so many ideas. I started to get some materials like glitter materials and I started using pva glue but it wouldn’t stick so I used tape which was easier.

Later, Mr Bell said we could use paint so I added paint  to my dress. After that I  left my dress somewhere safe for it to dry. While it was trying to dry I helped Marii and Roland paint. First I helped Marii make her lion and after that I helped Roland paint his panda. My shirt was getting dirty so I tried not to be more careful. My dress still wasn’t dried yet!!!

Then I found cardboard to make a crown and I cut a piece of cardboard. I taped it like a circle, I painted the front yellow to make it a little gold and at the back I painted it pink because pink is my favourite colour. I covered my crown and dress using a piece of plastic to let it dry. After that the bell rang for morning tea. I didn’t want to eat because I wanted to continue. When the bell rang I came back to Room 7 and my dress and my crown was dry. Hooray!! So I put it on but something was missing. It was the back of me. The shoulder part kept going down so I tied the shoulder part and now it was better. I used a plastic bag for my dress. It was amazing.

The fashion show started in the afternoon on Thursday so we had time. It wasn’t easy, I thought it was easy, it was Hard! Now it was Thursday in the morning and after prayers, Room 6 went to room 7 to do some  about organising for the fashion show. After lunch time we put on our clothes and it was show time!! People had turns in categories to walk past all the other children in the school!! Finally  it was my turn. I was really proud and happy for myself. I couldn’t stop laughing because people kept shouting. I was proud and happy that all our hard work was being celebrated. What a great week.
